Jeff Webb and I hit Essex St. from about 1:15 to 3:15 pm today, thoroughly scouring the whole area & all side trails. Naturally we dipped on both of his rarities (not for lack of trying) but in addition to Robert's list we found a late female COMMON YELLOWTHROAT on the Watchmaker St. side of the marsh edge, a handful of Northern Flickers, over 100 Robins and a Pileated Woodpecker.

Subject: [Maine-birds] Blue-gray Gnatcatcher and Northern Waterthrush at Essex Woods in Bangor, 10/24
This fairly awful weather has kept me mostly indoors the last few days. While I've enjoyed staying warm and making more and more pots of coffee, I was excited to get back out in the field this morning. Apparently the weather was worth it from a birding perspective, because in the span of 5 minutes and 10 yards, I encountered both a Blue-gray Gnatcatcher and a Northern Waterthrush! They were both located roughly 30 yards from the Garden Way entrance.
-- Both are very late and the gnatcatcher is the first I've seen in Maine. Sure makes me wonder what else is in the area today - hope I can get back out!
