[Maine-birds] Belfast Bay census of Nov. 13, 2014

Last Thursday Gary Gulezian and I spent a rewarding morning looking for birds on Belfast Bay.  Highlights were the 2 Red-throated Loons, 5 Red-necked Grebes, and the first appearance of Long-tailed Ducks, Common Goldeneyes, and Buffleheads for the season.   As for numbers, Mallards are still low with only five seen.  Common Eiders and Black Guillemots were absent, which is what has happened about this time in past years.  There were still 6 Double-crested Cormorants around, all immatures, and we watched one circle to gain altitude in what looked like preparation for a migratory flight.
