[Maine-birds] Rough-legged Hawk - Pond Island

A single Rough-legged Hawk was hover-hunting over the ridge line of Pond Island, mouth of the Kennebec River, this morning. Not the first time this bird has been seen here. If not hunting actively, one of these might be seen perched on the railing of the upper deck of the small lighthouse on Pond I.

If one of these stays the winter (as in past winters), its territory would include all of the salt marsh surrounding Popham Beach and Campbell Island, as well as Pond and Stage islands.

No details on plumage…it was mostly a silhouette today.
