Another dazzling morning at the Point featuring close passing migrants buffeted by southwesterly
winds somewhat steady at 10 -15 mph with occasional gusts into the 20's. Pounding surf to boot.
Gray sky and quality of lighting made colors "jump" off the birds.
The following list of numbers may or may not be impressive, however the experience
of looking out to see multiple passing flocks of various species at the same time makes for renewed
enthusiasm! The two hour observation effort produced the following:
542 Surf Scoter
137 Red-breasted Merganser
69 White-winged Scoter
65 Common Eider
48 Long-tailed Duck
47 American Black Duck
24 Northern Gannet
19 Common Loon
15 Black Scoter
8 Red-throated Loon
5 Harlequin Duck
4 Lesser Scaup
An organized sea bird migration monitoring effort is happening in Acadia National Park.
At Schoodic Point the effort occurs on Tu, W, and Th. mornings from 6:30ish to 9ish.
