Hello All,
A trip through Androscoggin County turned up a gathering of waterfowl at Range Pond and Route 26: 35 Mallards, 3 Black Ducks, 27 Common Goldeneye, 14 Hooded Mergansers and a single Ring-necked Duck. The pond at the Range Pond bridge was mostly frozen.
Lake Auburn hosted 55 Mallards, 12 Common Goldeneye, 1 Common Loon, 2 Common Mergansers and 3 Hooded Mergansers.
7 Horned Larks were on Pottle HIll Road in Minot at the crest of the hill. 27 were seen at Pearl Street and Upper Road in Turner.
A single Sharp-shinned Hawk in downtown Sabattus was the only raptor seen all day.
Sabattus pond is nearly completely frozen, Lake Auburn is open but no Scaup or Ruddy Ducks were seen. Tripp Lake was mostly frozen, Taylor Pond was open but only a single distant duck. About 30 ducks most appearing to be Mallards were circling over a dairy farm on Upper Road in Turner where I believe the feed at a silage storage or something like that not visible from the road.
The Sabattus River in the village had 25 Mallards, 4 Black Ducks and 1 Black x Mallard hybrid and three Hooded Mergansers.
