[Maine-birds] Varied Thrush - Chester, Snowy Owl -Bangor Mall

My husband and I found the previously reported female Varied Thrush at 490 North Chester Road, Chester (near Lincoln) today.  It was exactly as reported earlier - on trees and the ground near feeders between the house and garage. We watched, using the car as a blind, and it returned several times for fairly extensive periods, once the bluejays got setttled, despite being flushed by the homeowner's dog, then cat and a Northern Goshawk at the end. It was seen eating weed seeds from the ground as well as flying between the oaks and a nearby pine.

The homeowners said we were the 4th people to come to see the bird today. Thank-you homeowners for sharing!!  The right lane of I95 was clear of ice, but the passing lane not so good, and the edges still had lots of black ice from yesterday's storm, and Rte 116 (Chester Road) was icy in places, so please be cautious.

On the way home, we saw a snowy owl with some black barring perched on a telephone pole right at the Stillwater Avenue exit to the Bangor Mall. We were traveling south on I95 and I could see it quickly, but clearly, as we drove by. This would not be that far from the Bangor Airport (as the Owl flies) so it may be the same bird that has been seen there lately.  Traffic sped by beneath it, and we did not stop to see if it stayed or to take photos.
