[Maine-birds] Bath Landfill, etc. Jan 08

The Kennebec R. at slack this morning was weird. Between the floe ice patches were expanses of open water, temporarily frozen. These would thaw later in the morning. A serene scene, devoid of loafing gulls, who all seem to be ganged up on the Weskeag Ice Roost. The landfill may be controlling the gulls with a occasional shotgun blast. Happened while I was there, and ca. 100 gulls took off and circled, then drifted slowly off to the Weskeag Roost. Hanging around the edges were 10 Bald Eagles (no Golden Eagles). 1 2nd cy. Glaucous Gull was present. About 600-700 gulls were massed on the Weskeag ice later in the morning.
