[Maine-birds] Pacific Loon at Fort Foster, Kittery

This afternoon around 3 p.m. I found a "classic" Pacific Loon off Fort Foster in Kittery. The bird was seen from the old fishing pier and was out toward Whaleback Light associated with a couple of Common Loons. It was clearly somewhat smaller and darker, and had a more rounded head and the chin-strap that is diagnostic for this species. I'm wondering if this is the same individual seen and photographed off NH back in December.

Also of note was an adult Lesser Black-backed Gull on one of the rocky islands farther around the park to the north.

Happy New Year,
