[Maine-birds] Large Owl Yarmouth

I was leaving Hannafords tonight right around sunset, and turned right on to Route 1 (towards Main St.) and lumbering low across the road with heavy wingbeats trying to gain speed and altitude, was a very large owl. It was about the size of a snowy, however was very dark brown in appearance. It was very stocky with a large rounded head although I could not for sure say it had the ears of a Great Horned or the smoother head of a Great Gray due to the lighting and the wing movements, well that and I was trying to drive.

It disappeared into the large stand of evergreens in the Down East Motel (they must have owly rates... wow, I can't believe I actually typed that... :-) ) I got out and searched the area for about 10 minutes but could not find it. It may have passed through and over more towards the area between the Mill on Bridge St. and Grist Mill Park.

Certainly made the trip to the grocery store a little more exciting!
