Three Sandhill Cranes flew over I-295 at the Beedle Rd. in northwest Richmond this morning (fide D. Ladd). I checked their usual haunts from Messalonskee north on Wednesday and only found people skiing on the marshes, lakes, fields. Still very icy and snowy in central Maine. Things have changed a lot in the past few days, however, and this is a typical, if a week to ten days late, arrival time for cranes.
