Visitors:
There were no visitors to the hawkwatch today. People were probably clearing their driveways and enjoying some hot chocolate.
Weather:
The snowstorm delayed hawkwatch, but an hour and 45 minutes of counting were possible after the storm passed. Conditions on the mountain were quite pleasant following the storm, with a light northwest breeze, partly cloudy sky, and good visibility.
Raptor Observations:
There were few raptors in the sky this afternoon, but a little burst of activity occurred in which three migrants and some local raptors made an appearance. A local red-tail stretched its wings and kited, hunting close to Bradbury Mountain.
Non-raptor Observations:
Eight species were seen and/or heard today. This included a first-of-season Red-breasted Nuthatch, with its trumpet-like call echoing nearby. Out by Eagle Island, a mob of gulls surrounded a lobster boat.
Predictions:
Mostly clear skies, warming temperatures, and a west wind should allow for a good hawkwatching day tomorrow, especially since birds were held up by the storm. We would love to see you stop by. Don't forget your binoculars!
