Today Flat Bay seemed to be a staging place for Red-breasted Mergansers - we saw 80+ in the upper part of the bay. Along with the mergansers we were surprised to see a lone male White-winged Scoter. This was the first White-winged Scoter we've seen so far up into Flat Bay (it was bird #113 for our "yard list" of three years and counting....). The large flocks of Long-tailed Ducks and Common Eiders are gone but the Bufflehead are still hanging around but in reduced numbers.
