I stopped by Simpson's Point from about 4:40 to 5:20PM yesterday with similar results. I also went over to Lookout Point after that and scoped for another half hour or so. Sadly no matter how hard I tried I could not turn the lone Red-Necked Grebe I saw into a Western.

I didn't see any later posts from Simpson's Point so here's an update -After Rob Speir's sighting early this morning, there were no sightings of the Western Grebe through 1 PM despite lots of searching eyes. I arrived at 9:45 and others were already searching. I called it quits at 1 PM. But there were lots of birds visible from the point, including these highlights -Black Scoters - a huge flock that some estimated at 3,000 to 4,000. At times we could hear them "singing" - a first for meKestrels - migrating north up the bay - at least 4Osprey - likely migrating north - 2Snowy Egret - 1 flew up the bay and landed near the point - seemed to have just arrivedAnd a short distance away I spotted a flock of about 15 Bohemian Waxwings feeding on a crabapple tree at the corner of Baribeau Drive and Peary Drive just south of Brunswick. Very cooperative birds.Mike ReschPepperell, MA
