[Maine-birds] Additional Highlights and Shorebird High Counts this week, 9/10-16

Hi all,

Just a couple of other observations of note over the past seven days, in addition to what I have previously posted here, included the following:

- massive swallow migration on 9/12, including hundreds of Tree Swallows over Scarborough Marsh (plus 1-2 Cliff Swallows and 3++ Bank Swallows), and Tree Swallows passing at a rate of 50 per minute for almost an hour at Dyer Point, Cape Elizabeth (with clients from North Carolina). 

- 1 juv. Common Tern and 1 Surf Scoter, Dyer Point, 9/12 (with clients).

- 2 CASPIAN TERNS (1 ad with 1 juv), 1 Great Cormorant, 6 White-winged Scoters, etc., Popham Beach State Park, Phippsburg, 9/16.

Meanwhile, my shorebird high counts over the past seven days were as follows:

AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVER: 3 juv, Pine Point, Scarborough, 9/12 (with clients from North Carolina)

Black-bellied Plover: 123, The Pool, Biddeford Pool, 9/11 (with clients from North Carolina).

Semipalmated Plover: 147, Pine Point, 9/12 (with clients)

Killdeer: 2, Scarborough Park & Ride, 9/12 (with clients).

AMERICAN OYSTERCATCHER: continuing family group of 4, Hill's Beach, 9/11 (with clients).

Greater Yellowlegs: 5, Pine Point, 9/12 (with clients).

Lesser Yellowlegs: 12, Yarmouth Town Landing, 9/10 (with Saturday Morning Birdwalk group).

Solitary Sandpiper: 1, Sandy Point, Yarmouth, 9/10.

"WESTERN" WILLET: 1 juv, Jones Creek, Scarborough Marsh, 9/12 (with clients). 

MARBLED GODWIT: 1 continuing juv, The Pool, 9/11 (with clients).

Ruddy Turnstone: 5, Hill's Beach, 9/11 (with clients).

Red Knot: 12 juv, Hill's Beach, 9/11 (with clients).

Sanderling: 250+, Popham Beach State Park, 9/16.

Semipalmated Sandpiper: 200+, The Pool, 9/11 (with clients).

Least Sandpiper: 26, Eastern Road Trail, Scarborough Marsh, 9/12 (with clients).

White-rumped Sandpiper: 2, Hill's Beach, 9/11 (with clients).

BAIRD'S SANDPIPER: 1 juv, Popham Beach SP, 9/16.

BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPER: 2 juv, Eastern Road Trail, 9/12 (with clients. Same two as on 9/4?).

Short-billed Dowitcher: 12, Jones Creek, 9/12 (with clients).
