Yesterday was bad. How bad? I had two shearwaters in the morning at Lobster Cove and that was twice the number of warblers I saw all day. Except for one die-hard sharpie, no raptors. If you don't like eating waxwings, don't go to Monhegan was posted on all raptor social media sites.
With the slowed north wind and clear skies last night lots of birds arrived. Scattered Song Sparrows, Chipping Sparrows and Clay-colored. White-throats had by others
I birded the "Hot Fat" Trail with Bill Thompson for several hours. We barely moved. Magnolia, Yellow, Yellowthroat, Parulas, BT Greens, RC Kinglets, Redstarts, Gnatcatcher, 5 migrant Ospreys, RE Vireos, Bobolink (Bill only), one Merlin (word is getting out), Orioles, Downies, no Sapsuckers yet, almost no Flickers yet, etc. BIG change! No sign of the juvie YH Blackbird that Bill photographed flying over two days ago.
