[Maine-birds] Bo Waxwings/Farmington

Greetings, birding friends! A sparkling, frosty morning like this one calls for a walk in the open. So Tashi and I headed for the the expansive and dog-friendly wellhead protection fields along the Sandy River adjacent to UMF's Prescott Field complex in Farmington.

In the corner of the fields closest to the Narrow Gauge Cinema (which is often the birdiest area) we spotted a mixed flock of 30+ waxwings basking in the morning sun. Almost the entire group were Bohemian Waxwings. Their trilling calls were the perfect auditory accompaniment to the sharp air and high-key light.

Bring on the Evening Grosbeaks!

Peace and good birding,
Scott Cronenweth
