Apologies also for a delayed reported from the Matinicus Island CBC that was done on January 3, 2018. I was joined this year by Seth Benz and Rob O’Connell (his third year doing the count).
Many of you may or may not know that we fly out in the morning from the Knox County Regional Airport in Owls Head and back in the afternoon to do the count.
This year, numbers were down on most waterfowl and other waterbirds/seabirds but high for landbirds. New species for the count were Green-winged Teal, Ruddy Turnstone, and Gray Catbird. We had 7 Northern Flickers (a new high), one Red-bellied Woodpecker, 24 Yellow-rumped Warblers, 62 Dark-eyed Juncos, 15 White-throated Sparrows, 10 Song Sparrows, a Mockingbird, 22 American Robins, 26 Cedar Waxwings, 16 Snow Buntings, 11 White-winged Crossbills.
41 species total
Thanks to Rob and Seth!
Jeff
