[Maine-birds] Rough-legged Hawks at Schoodic

This morning's Tuesday Birding Group witnessed somewhat of a raptor bonanza over Schoodic Island -
as viewed from Blueberry Hill Overlook (the upper overlook as the lower one is unplowed).

We saw 5 Rough-legged Hawks and 3 Bald Eagles all actively hunting the island.
One RLHA is a dark phase and the other 4 appear to be intermediate phase.

The eagles shared some sort of kill - after an adult killed something along the shoreline (but hidden from view by large boulder),
a juvenile flew in from the mainland and displaced the adult. The adult then flew down the length of the island before turning
around and coming back to the kill site and the juvenile. Both were on the shore by the kill when a third eagle flew in, a second adult.
The two adults then jumped up on the boulder standing side by side to reveal an obvious difference in size, a male and female, a pair?

Meanwhile, the RLHAs were actively hover hunting along the ridge line of the island, much of the time 3 or 4 in the air simultaneously.

Other birds observed included Red-throated Loon, Northern Gannet, Great Cormorant (6), Red-necked Grebe (2), Common Eider (6), and Surf Scoter (2).

Earlier, we had 3 Black-legged Kittiwakes and 4 Razorbill just off Schoodic Point.
