A windy, fairly chilly mid-day walk around the Maguire Road section of the Kennebunk Plains was reasonably productive, bird-wise. Big treat was 13 Common Mergansers on the pond between the Maguire Road and Route 99 sections, along with nesting Canada Geese (3 birds total) and a lone Ring-necked Duck. Under the power lines on the south side of Maguire I stirred up a small flock (6-10 birds) of what may have been Vesper Sparrows. I had only a fleeting look at them, but believe that I saw the white on their tails, and this is an area where they hang out a lot. Further along found two FOY Field Sparrows.
Also, decent number of raptors: four Kestels, young Red-tail, probable Harrier (brief glimpse at a great distance), lone Turkey Vulture. A few Flickers, a pair of Bluebirds, and a fly-over by a GBH. No warblers in sight. --
