[Maine-birds] Rose-breasted Grosbeak in Gardiner

From our perspective, the Birdcast forecast was pretty much on target. Here in Gardiner we had a beautiful male Rose-breasted Grosbeak sunning himself in a bare maple tree in the backyard this morning. There were also singing Ruby-crowned Kinglets, a couple of Yellow-rumped Warblers, a bunch of Chipping Sparrows, a boldly-plumaged White-throated Sparrow and at least eight fly-over Northern Flickers—all seemingly overnight arrivals. And the Red-bellied Woodpecker that has taken up residence in the neighborhood was calling loudly.

A little late to report, but we had our first Broad-winged Hawk circling low over the house on Saturday (4/21) and enjoyed seeing a male Green-winged Teal in a little shallow pool of water in someone’s backyard in Alna later that day.
