A friend with a farm pond in Lincolnville mentioned that a Red-shouldered Hawk had been hanging out near the pond over the last few days, making the Hooded Mergansers there nervous.
I spotted a Red-shouldered Hawk this morning that was soaring over Route One near the Camden/Rockport town line. Driving back by that same spot this afternoon, the (presumably) same hawk was perched on the power line.
In other FOY news, my mother, who lives upriver from us on the "mill pond" section of Camden's Megunticook River, reports seeing her first Great Blue Heron of the season, hunkered down on the river. Over the past week, several Wood Ducks have been feeding on their lawn under the bird feeders, as well.
