[Maine-birds] indigo bunting and fledgling pine siskin Falmouth

Like (as it seems…) everyone else, most of the usual breeders returned this weekend (yellowthroat, chippers, catbird, parula, ovenbird, cowbird (ugh), etc). A GC flycatcher is still missing, but what did show up was a brilliant indigo bunting - a new yard bird for us (first “new” bird since the red-bellied woodpecker early last winter).

Also of note – I was surprised to hear food begging at the thistle feeder last week. I snapped a few photos and some video of a very young pine siskin harassing an adult siskin. Seems strange for early May, right? I sure thought so, but I hear that siskins are funky/opportunistic breeders…Thanks Jeanette for the confirmation and continued help!

Happy spring bird nerds ~
