[Maine-birds] Shorebird Flight at Wharton Point

Late Monday afternoon at Wharton Point in Brunswick, 9 shorebird species were present, highlighted by an impressive flock of 359 Short-billed Dowitchers and 3 White-rumped Sandpipers.

The dowitchers were foraging on the incoming tide on the east side of Wharton Point.  The birds were quite vocal when taking flight several times.

As the dowitchers were being observed, 3 White-rumped Sandpipers flew in (distinctive flight call noted) with a small flock of peeps.

Also, a pair of Nelson's Sparrows flushed from the salt marsh.

Good birding,

Gordon
