Merle and Anne,
The best time to work the ponds next to the road and bridge is between two hrs. before and two hrs. after high tide. Check the ponds in the distance looking upriver.
Also, a great spot for viewing ducks, shorebirds and roosting gulls is from the boat launch (best in spring before the Spartina gets tall). It is very pleasant there along the Pleasant River (no pun intended) as there is very little road noise and there are often waterfowl on the river. You can also position your car to avoid the wind when scoping from the car. If the tide is out, the dabbling ducks tend to feed off the end of the marsh where the river bends and across the river from there along the shore.
Good birding!

No Great Egrets today. Yesterday, at low tide only two birds were present - a lone Lesser Yellowlegs and a Long-billed Dowitcher. We are finding that low tide isn't the best time to bird these particular ponds.Merle and Anne Archie
