On a brief morning walk along the northeast side of Pushaw Lake in Hudson this morning, I was pleased to note my first couple of tree sparrows for the season. Shortly after, I watched a mourning dove pursued by a Cooper’s hawk pursued by a crow. The action took place above the tree tops. I saw the dove elude the first couple of passes, but then the action went out of sight. At that altitude, I have little doubt that the hawk caught its meal before the crow could summon a mob. Besides, to be honest, the crow didn’t really look like it wanted to catch the hawk.
