[Maine-birds] queen eider

Found a lonely female King Eider at Seapoint Beach in Kittery Point on Saturday afternoon.  She was off the end of the “seapoint” and gradually made her way around counterclockwise while we pointed scopes and binoculars at her.  None of us had ever seen a “queen” eider before so we were pawing through field guides a bit at first.  Nice vague eye ring, and a whiteness behind the bill.  She was not as “golden” as common eider hens, especially in bright light, rather she was a more subdued brown.
