[Maine-birds] E. Screech Owl - West Bath

My wife and I both heard the unmistakable whinny call of an Eastern Screech Owl tonight, Cindy while walking Roxie at 6:15, me while sipping a glass of wine on the back deck at 7:45.  It appears to be emanating from across Dam Cove, in the Quaker Point area.

I'll try to nail down the periodicity of the calls over the next few days, and will also try to figure out how to record this bugger if he continues calling.  Maybe we can find a roost as well?

We are both very familiar with this bird's vocalizations.  We were surrounded by Screech Owls at our last house in NJ.  In the middle of a large, very mature hardwood forest.  Their calling can get them into trouble.  Great Horned Owls home in on them and prey on them freely.  (Don't know whether Barred Owls take similar advantage).   You would think natural selection would favor those who keep their traps shut.

I just looked at the distribution of screech owls on eBird.  It's incredible how sightings are piled up in New Hampshire, but not across the border here in ME.  That's just odd.
