Next-to-last day of nature cruises around the bay.
Common Loon...50+ most in winter plumage
Red-throated Loon...6 with two of them flying across the bay
Red-necked Grebe...8
Common Eider....1000+ all age groups
Black Scoter...20+ small flock off Egg Rock
White-winged Scoter...40+ small flocks moving throughout the bar area
Surf Scoter....2 one male, one female off Schooner Head
Red-breasted Merganser...1 a female at Egg Rock.
Gannet....6 single bids moving across mouth of bay.
Great Cormorant....10+ scattered around Egg Rock and the Acadia NP shoreline
Double-crested Cormorant....still quite common
Black Guillemot.....common, some small compact groups of 8-10 birds
Long-tailed Duck...24 in a single flock off Bar Harbor breakwater
Bald Eagle...3 one adult, 1 second year bird, 1 hatching year bird circling over Ironbound I.
Herring, Great Black-backed, Ring-billed, and Bonaparte's Gulls throughout bay.
