I stopped at Lake Josephine and Christina Reservoir on my lunch hour today.
-- Lake Jo (in Easton) had plenty of ducks. Best were 5 Buffleheads, 4 juvie White-winged Scoters, some late American Wigeon and Gadwall and a season-high 16 Lesser Scaup. 135 Hooded Mergansers and about 30 Common Mergansers were higher counts here. A late Belted Kingfisher and two jumpy White-rumped Sandpipers with a smaller mystery peep (super-late Least?) were also notable.
Best bird of the lunch break however, was a Cackling Goose seen with a flock of 300+ Canada Geese across the road at Christina Reservoir in Fort Fairfield. A juvie Red-necked Grebe here was a close second... Not much else on the pond.
Today, I also received reports of a Greater White-fronted Goose over in Portage Lake as well as the season's first Bohemian Waxwings chowing down on fruit on the UMPI campus in Presque Isle. Will be checking on those!
Good Birding.
