[Maine-birds] Chipping Sparrow Flycatcher?

I just witnessed a Chipping Sparrow doing the worst impression ever of a flycatcher. A moth was fluttering by our big rhododendron, and suddenly a brown, flappy flash went for it--with no success. The moth fluttered on, and the Chippy went after it again from his new perch--no success; landed on the cable line. Tried a third time with no success!

Do chippies normally hawk for insects?

Delia in Brunswick.
