What may have been one of the last of our Snowy Owl visitors (not counting The County), was loafing on the beach at Popham Beach early this morning in the lifting fog. When flushed (by me? couldn't say for sure), it flew low over the water toward the Kennebec River mouth, at one point hotly pursued by a Herring Gull.
Anyone messing around down there today should check one of the Sugarloaf Rocks at the mouth of the Kennebec, often a favored spot for Snowy Owls. Very white bird, but I only saw the dorsal surfaces.
