We witnessed a good migrant wave during the morning of September 14 at Fields Pond and the Visitor Center area. Three species of vireos (including Philadelphia), 8 species of warblers, at least 5 Eastern Wood-Pewee in a flock (one calling persistently). A spiral of 5 Broad-winged Hawks and 2 Sharp-shinned Hawks as well as good looks at a Woodcock on the Ravine Trail made for good birding. In the early evening at Essex Marsh we saw 2 Great Egrets and one Green Heron but not much passerine activity.
On September 15 we were back at Essex Woods in the early morning and saw 10 species of warblers (with lots of Parulas and an Ovenbird), 3 species of vireos (including singing Warbling Vireo). We saw a Merlin fly across Stillwater Road near the mall!
