A flock of 40+ swallows was working recently hayed fields in Benton farmland yesterday. Nearly all the birds were in juvenile plumage and included several Bank and Cliff Swallows among 2-3 dozen Barn Swallows. The Barn Swallows were also foraging in crab apples bordering the fields. Perhaps some of the displaced insects from the fields were in those shrubs and trees, attracting the swallows. It is getting late for this number of swallows here, especially the Bank and Cliff.
