[Maine-birds] Popham Beach - evening

We had dinner on the beach at Popham this evening, and were joined by a birder from NYState and another birder from Tennessee. Immediately across a shallow slip of high-tide-water from us, a gull flock gathered. 3 adults and 1 3rd cycle Lesser Black-backed landed together, and stuck together while we photo'd and looked for more. Still have not seen the young-of-the-year LessBacks.

Forgot to mention from this morning, that I have photos of a very small black-backed gull that has 3 bands on the left leg, 1 band on the right. It is an adult, difficult to ascertain leg color (maybe yellowish-pink) but streaks on the nape indicating the winter hood. The back seems very black, and I can't really see a contrast between the mantle and the wing-tips. . The black tertials have a very narrow white margin. It's so tiny it must be a less-back, but the back seems very black. Perhaps the banding protocol will unravel this bird.
