...was somewhat frustrating this morning. Heard a semi plover and looked up to find it in the stratosphere. A swallow was flying with it. One of the colorful ones (barn, cliff, or cave.) Had no tail streamers, and no white tail spots. So Cliff (late) or Cave (early). Circled the west end of lagoon and seemed to settle down there. Swallows often perch on the corpses of long-dead trees stranded in the lagoon, but not this one, apparently. I searched hard, but never saw this bird again.
Also scanned through the gull flock, which was fairly well consolidated this morning on Popham Beach or over near the Morse R. mouth. I could only find 2 adult Less Backs. Unable to find any young-of-the-year Less Backs.
Among the very few shorebirds at the lagoon, were 2 Golden Plovers among a dozen BBPlovers. When the latter split for Atkins Bay (Low Tide on the mudflats) the goldens remained. So there's a behavioral difference between the 2. Heard an incoming Baird's Sandpiper, then saw it circle the lagoon until settling right next to one of the golden plovers. Tried to get a decent photo of the 2 of them standing next to each other, but didn't do very well.
