[Maine-birds] Re: Caracara

I'm a recent transplant from Florida and am extremely familiar with this species' life history and behavior, having observed it too many times to recall.  I am absolutely stunned that it is here and hope it heads south before too long as it won't last through the winter.  But birders should take advantage of this remarkable opportunity to see a bird that rarely travels farther north than central Florida and southern Texas, if you haven't seen one yet.

The Caracara was present this evening, seen from rte 2 across from the waste mgmnt entrance. The bird was on a telephone pole to the left of the barn then flew to a fence post to the right of the house . It then flew to the back edges of the fields and flew out from there and seen a few more times in that vicinity.
