[Maine-birds] Additional Highlights This Week and Goose Fields Update, 11/1-7

Hi all,

Sightings of note from me over the past seven days included:

- 100+ Horned Larks and 50+ American Pipits, Mayall Rd, Gray/New Gloucester, 11/1 (with Saturday Morning Birdwalk Group).

- 5 REDHEADS, Florida Lake Park, Freeport, 11/2 (photos; my 154th species for this patch).

- 2 Lesser Yellowlegs, 6 Greater Yellowlegs, 3 Black-bellied Plovers, 8 Laughing Gulls, etc, Wharton Point, Brunswick, 11/2.

- 1 Fox Sparrow (first of fall), our yard in Pownal, 11/3.

- 1 ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER, Kettle Cove, Cape Elizabeth, 11/7.

- 1 Gray Catbird and 1 "Ipswich" Savannah Sparrow, Crescent Beach State Park, Cape Elizabeth, 11/7.

1 LINCOLN'S SPARROW

1 Northern Shrike (first of fall)

1 Northern Goshawk

1 Indigo Bunting

1 White-crowned Sparrow for my 10th sparrow species here this am!

2 Common Yellowthroats

- 1 BLACKPOLL WARBLER and 1 Common Yellowthroat, Pond Cove, Cape Elizabeth, 11/7.

- 1 Indigo Bunting, Community garden at Hinckley Park, South Portland, 11/7.

And the "Greater Yarmouth Goose Fields" Update for this week:

- The GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE continues through week's end, most often at Thornhurst Farm, along Rte 115 in North Yarmouth.

- The CACKLING GOOSE, refound on 11/1, continued through at least mid-week. Photos are suggestive, but not definitive, that this is the same individual as seen through about 10/28.

- The leucistic Canada Goose continued for its third week.

- My high count of Canada Geese for the week was 575 on 11/1.

- Increasing fly-overs from Bald Eagles, as is typical of the season, are keeping the flocks on their toes, and often clearing out fields for several hours at a time.

- American Pipits and southbound flocks of Common Grackles have been regular in the fields throughout the week.
