[Maine-birds] Common redpolls, Carolina wren, etc In China, ME

Had 3 common redpolls at the feeders this morning among the regulars - chickadees, tufted titmouse, downy and hairy woodpeckers, American goldfinches, white breasted nuthatches, bluejays, a pair of northern cardinals, American tree sparrows, and morning doves. Also have a Carolina wren that has been visiting regularly since September. Continuing to see bald eagles in the area around the lake despite it being frozen over.

Spoke with my 84 year old mother today who lives near Buffalo, NY. I had enrolled her in Project Feeder Watch to help her pass the cold winter months. She always feeds the birds and talks about them a lot. I asked her whether she was recording her birds and she said yes, but she has had very few birds the last 2 weeks. I asked her if she knew why and she said she has "a big white owl" in her backyard and it comes and takes a bird off her feeder now and then, so the little ones are afraid!
