Gary Gulezian and I conducted this census. It was a sunny morning with little or no wind and only moderately cold (9-14 F) temperatures. The snow is still deep, requiring snowshoes to access two of our birding points, but all in all, it was a pleasant morning of birding. There was lots to see: 1296 birds total with the number of species (16) recovering somewhat from the low numbers of preceding weeks. Birding highlights included 8 male Northern Pintails (upstream from the Rt 1 bridge across the Passagassawakeag River), an adult Peregrine Falcon perched on an abutment of the same bridge, and 1 first cycle Iceland Gull (with a flock of Herring Gulls at the west end of the footbridge). As usual Herring Gulls (832) and Mallards (293) dominated the numbers.
