I spent a couple hours this morning doing some scouting for the upcoming Caribou/Limestone Christmas Bird Count. It was strange conditions (for this northern location) with no snow on the ground and temperatures heading for the high forties...
-- Found Evening Grosbeaks, Common Redpolls and Bohemian Waxwings in Caribou but the best stuff was at the Tri-Community Landfill in Fort Fairfield. Several hundred gulls are lingering here this fall and there was a good number of the "white-winged " variety. The flock included at least six first cycle Glaucous Gulls and at least 9 Iceland Gulls.
Haven't seen the thrasher in a couple days but several Ruffed Grouse have replaced it under the feeders.
