Visitors:15 people visited the hawkwatch, including students from a Presumpscot Elementary School field trip.
Weather:It was overcast with excellent visibility and temperatures mostly in the high forties today. Winds were very light and mostly from the northeast.
Raptor Observations:It was a slow day, especially during the afternoon. Unsettled weather to the south was probably holding up migrants. Local Broad-winged Hawks and Cooper's Hawks were displaying, and local Turkey Vultures and Bald Eagles were cruising around.
Non-raptor Observations:The second Blue-gray Gnatcatcher of the season stopped by for a visit this morning. One Horned Lark flew over the summit. Hawkwatch Juncos One, Two, and Three were spunky as always and kept the hawk counter company. 45 bird species were observed.
Species deemed migrating:
15 American Robins
4 Tree Swallows
3 American Goldfinches
3 Double-crested Cormorants
3 Purple Finches
1 Canada Goose
1 Common Grackle
1 Common Loon
1 Great Blue Heron
1 Horned Lark
Predictions:Tomorrow should start off partly cloudy, becoming overcast in the afternoon with a small chance of showers. Light easterly winds are predicted. Raptor migration may be slow due to unsettled weather to the south, but there should be some birds moving through.
