While standing in position for sightings of the VIRA that never materialized, I heard the song of a waterthrush and felt fairly certain it was a northern. After pushing into and through some underbrush I was able to get close looks, nothing long enough for photos.
Pat Sanborn arrived and shared with me a good mnemonic for distinguishing the songs of northern and Louisiana. Louisiana sings with more of a southern drawl.
The bird is moving between the stream edge in the saddle of the trail and the marsh opposite side of the trail.
No sign of the NAWA and NOPAs from yesterday.
A few more paper windows to open in the advent calendar for the arrival of spring migrants, the event that never "arrives".
Patience and perseverance as it all unfolds.
