[Maine-birds] Re: Snowy Egret question?

Hey Bill,
I had a similar instance last year although I have to say the one I saw was not as perfectly pink as yours. Nice shot! It turns out they do turn pink during either courtship or confrontations (some may say those are synonymous. :-) )
Here  was one link: http://www.heronconservation.org/styled-5/styled-51/
This link does not describe it but does have a picture of it in the gallery: https://www.audubon.org/field-guide/bird/snowy-egret
I remembered a guide book showing it and I can't remember if it was the National Geographic one (out in the truck at the moment), but my old golden guide shows a SNOWY EGRET displaying and it has the pink lores.

Cheers!
Rob

Is it unusual for a Snowy Egret to have red lores? I took s few pictures of one at Back Cove in Portland with red lores on May 2. I think this is the real color, not just a poor exposure.
