[Maine-birds] Northern Maine Birds: Barnacle, Greater White-fronted and Cackling Geese continue

The Barnacle Goose pair continued to show well at Collins Pond in Caribou today.

For a second day there was no sign of the Snow Geese or  the Greenland Greater White-fronted Goose found here last week by Josh Fecteau.  A new addition was an interesting trio of Cackling Geese that appeared just today.  The birds were all small, blocky headed, short billed Cacklers but individual's plumage and form differed noticeably.

A Greenland form Greater White-fronted Goose found by Bruce Barker and Bruce Cole on the 14th continues at Mars Hill Pond.  Steve Mierzykowski got some nice photos of this bird today.

Marian Zimmerman and Rob O'Connell also found two yellow collared Canada Geese here yesterday that are presumably part of the population that breeds in Greenland and the subject of research there.  The codes were affirmed today and the researchers were contacted.  More on them later.

Good birding.
