Hi everyone:
This is unfortunately not in an accessible location but I wanted to get this report up to encourage people to keep their eyes (and feeders) out. An immature male Rufous Hummingbird has been visiting a private yard in Portland since the 20th. The bird showed up the day after the homeowner put their hummingbird feeders back up. So keep those feeders up! This has been a pretty good fall so far for vagrant hummingbirds: Massachusetts has had at least three Rufous/Allen's Hummingbirds, Connecticut has had one, and Nova Scotia just had a Calliope on the 21st.
In the non-Trochilidae world, other extralimital sightings in the northeast lately include a Sprague's Pipit in CT, Gray Kingbird and Bell's Vireo in MA, and I guess we can put New Hampshire on the board with a Western Kingbird. Who knows what is next in Maine!
Good birding,
Doug Hitchcox
