[Maine-birds] Re: spotting scope

I think the Nikon Prostaff 5 20-60x82 is, in my opinion, the best sub $1000 scope you can get. It doesn't have crystal clear ED glass, but it performs great for it's price point. Like any scope, the higher the magnification the greater image degradation, but between 20x and 40-45x it's a great image. It's super lightweight and I've been really happy with mine and I compare it often to the very popular Vortex Razor HD and maybe it's me, but I would have a hard time differentiating between the two views. You may have to shop around a bit, but you can find it for under $500

Hi Everyone,

I was wondering what spotting scope would be the best bang for your buck under $500?  I would appreciate any ideas/input.  Many thanks, Aletha
