Visitors:
46 people came to the hawkwatch today.
Weather:
Breezy and chilly winds from the N kept people bundled up today. Air temps climbed to about 40 degrees for a high. Cloud cover broke apart throughout the day but remained over the area. Heat distortion was an issue for most of the day.
Raptor Observations:
A bird I was prepared to call a Buteo at first sight, slowly transformed into a large Accipiter, a Goshawk. The bird made its way from the east to the west northwest. Afternoon Harriers were a pleasant sight in the amber late day sun.
Non-raptor Observations:
Mid afternoon brought a large crowd of people, but also a group of 4 Sandhill Cranes, which were flying low over Hedgehog Mt. to the east.
Predictions:
Tomorrow may be colder than normal, with temps just hitting 40 degrees. Windchill could make it feel closer to the freezing mark. Winds should be coming from the NW at about 15 mph. Clouds should remain minimal. Broad-winged Hawks are now being spotted in NJ. Maybe Derek and Jeannette will get the first of the year at the start of the week.
