[Maine-birds] Northern Maine Birds: White-crowned Sparrows, Fox Sparrow, Yellow-bellied Flycatcher

Birded a loop through Connor, Aroostook NWR and Caribou this morning.

I had dreams of finding Northern Wheatears and American Golden-Plovers so I spent a good bit of time in the wide open spaces north of the airport in Caribou and along the Madawaska Road in Connor and Caribou.  I had no luck with my target species (no surprise) but did get to spend plenty of time with American Pipits.  Here's the list link for Louis:  http://ebird.org/ebird/view/checklist?subID=S11586456

At the field's edges, the hedgerows were awash in sparrows and one mega-flock in Connor offered up a first-of-fall White-crowned Sparrow.  The bird was a juvie and was cavorting with lots of White-throated, Savannah, Song and Chipping Sparrows.  A young-of-the-year Swamp Sparrow and a handsome Lincoln's Sparrow were also in the mix.  http://ebird.org/ebird/view/checklist?subID=S11586422

In the pond at Chapman Pit on Aroostook NWR in Limestone there was a good number of waterfowl including a Northern Pintail and bigger flocks of Green-winged Teal and Ring-necked Ducks.  Spiffiest passerine here was a bright Yellow-bellied Flycatcher which made my latest record for Aroostook County.  http://ebird.org/ebird/view/checklist?subID=S11586439

Back at home, I was surprised by a exceptionally early Fox Sparrow and another White-crowned under the feeders with the numerous White-throated and Chipping Sparrows.  http://ebird.org/ebird/view/checklist?subID=S11586404

62 species for the morning.
