[Maine-birds] Gilsland Farm Birdwalk

Hello again!

Today's walk at Gilsland Farm in Falmouth was really about the quality and completely losing tack of time:

While the woods have fallen silent of breeders, migrants are arriving. We were entertained by a little warbler flock foraging around the West Meadow blind, which was mostly made up of (five+) American Redstarts, plus Yellow-rumped Warbler, Black-and-white Warbler, and Yellow Warbler among other loosely associated passerines. I think this is the first time I've heard someone suffer from warbler-neck since the spring.

A personal highlight was the joy brought to the group by a bathing Osprey. The sky around here has been full of them though there still was one at the nest along Rt 9.

Our timing was also perfect when we reached the North Meadow blind and the masses of shorebirds were being pushed closer by the incoming tide. The 1500+ Semipalmated Sandpipers were being packed into the small bit of mud remaining in front of the blind - it was the perfect setup to look for something less common. But no white-rumps in this flock... I guess I'll have to come back next week!

Here is a complete checklist from the walk: http://ebird.org/ebird/view/checklist?subID=S14980095

Good birding,
