[Maine-birds] Sandy Point Morning Flight (new August record, Dickcissel, 13 spp warblers), 8/24

Hi all,

Although passerines have been moving south since late July, things are really only now beginning to heat up.  With the passage of a cold front yesterday and clear skies with a light northwesterly wind, migrants took to the air en masse last night.  In fact, the radar return was huge; exceptional for August.

 

Sandy Point Beach, Cousin's Island, Yarmouth therefore, was similarly fantastic.  In fact, it was record-setting.  A new August high count, and a new high count for 6 species.  Plus a Patch Bird!  Here's the morning's scorecard (*= new record high count):
